 King Charles 2nd had a favourite actress  friend called Nell Gwynne. She started life as an orange seller and in honour of this these jellies were served to  the King-- possibly to remind him of her enormous boobs.
She bore him a son who became the Duke of St. Albans

Orange Jelly


Recipe


I packet orange jelly
4 large oranges
4 tablespoons sherry(for adult servings only)
cold water
4 cherries , cream if liked


  • Cut the top off the oranges and carefully cut around  the flesh and juice and put into a plastic strainer over a basin.KEEP THE ORANGE PEEL CONTAINERS 
  • Melt the jelly in 2 tables spoon of  water ( microwave about 30 seconds) in a 1 pint jug.Cool.
  • Add the strained juice and pulp
  • Add 4 tables spoons of sherry
  • Make up to 1 pint of liquid with cold water
  • Let the mixture cool down until just wobbly then pour into the orange shells
  • Leave to set for about 2 hours or overnight in the fridge.
  • Decorate with a splodge of cream and a cherry or strawberry.
  • Serve chilled, remembering that this desert  contains alcohol.
